2007 Cleburne County Fair

We went to the Fair last night to see all the critters and find out how the we girls did in the needlework arena.

Youngest dd got first place for her latch hook pillow.

Oldest got first place for her floral drawing! Yeah!

Those booties that were the bane of my existance for months I made got 2nd place. I had problems with my tension….I’m not sure if they ment I was too tense, or my stitches were, ha,ha.

Heirloom Lace Booties (2nd pllace)

Remember these socks I made? The Monkey Socks from Knitty.com?

Monkey Socks

They were given a first place ribbon and BEST OF SHOW!!That blew me away! I thought when we all were looking at the the needlework area that they were misplaced somewhere… and after I saw my booties got 2nd place, I still couldn’t figure out where my socks were. DH says to me, “Why are you looking back here? They probably won and are up front”. I’m thinking, “Yeah, right…Ha! Very funny.”

So we mosey (I’m a rancher’s daughter, I can do that, in fact most ranch kids learn to mosey before learning to walk properly) up to the front of the building and there they are on the big table with all the Best Of Show winners! I was shocked and it didn’t really sink in until that night. Then I got to thinkin’…wow…I never expected that! I don’t know what I was expecting, really. I had fun making the socks and booties and entering them, but I was so much more excited to see how our girls did with their entries that mine just didn’t matter all that much to me in the end.

DH and I are so proud of our girls! youngest dd worked on that latch hook every single day until she had it completed. I only told her she had to do one row of latch hook after her bookwork was finished, but she enjoyed it so much that she did two or three rows on many days.

Also, I wish my little sweetie,  a very Happy Birthday today!

Oldest dd drew that rose, in what seemed like minutes, and colored it and said she wanted to enter it. So we bought the picture frame and I put some wire on the back and voila! Blue Ribbon Special!

Tomorrow, oldest dd will participate in the Talent Contest and I’ll have all the news when we get home.
