Tulip socks and the county fair

I’ve been quieter than usual. Sorry about that. Not much has been going on around here lately. Let’s see….we celebrated my oldest’s 11th b-day on Sat. just DH and I, and the other sibs.

What’s on my needles? I finished the Tulip Socks yesterday, yippee! Ends tied in, etc. and then I presented them and the Monkey Socks to DH for his opinion on which ones to enter into the fair and he thought the Monkey Socks were a better choice, perhaps he’s right. I tried to make a pair of booties from the Heirloom Knitting book by Sharon Miller. I’m having the hardest time with the short rows and keeping the bead fagoting stitch correct…arrrgggh >:( I’m trying again today, it’s becoming a matter of principle more than anything. I know I can make these little booties. The pattern stitch is easy and easy to remember, it’s just fanagling the short row part that’s eluding me. I do plan on entering these into the fair, too. I would like to be entered in a couple of catagories and these booties are pretty unique (if I can get them made, that is).

I helped my youngest dd finish her latch hook pillow last night. It’s a golden retriever puppy pillow and it’s so cute! She’ll enter it in the fair, and I hope it does well. She worked the whole entire latch hook by herself and then I helped her sew the backing on so the stitches were a bit more evenly spaced and she didn’t poke herself.

I hope to get lots of pics of the fair this year. Last year was our first at going and we only went on the first day (freebie school kids’ day) and there wasn’t much to see and do, so I’m hoping we can go on the weekend this time and experience a bit more of it. Our county fair is probably the smallest in the state, but despite the size, they have a lot of activities planned.

I have thought about entering the fair w/ my crochet before. I am a lot better at it (as I have been doing it for many many more years) and my ends almost always look okay when I weave them in… I still need a lot of help weaving in ends on my knitting, I can’t seem to get them invisible…
