Socks and More Socks

socks

My baby sock class went well yesterday, there was a bumpy part, though…. I have my student, cast-on, then she gets the DPN’s in a triangle and starts to knit. No problem (I’m doing the exact same thing as her on my needles). We get to knitting for about ten minutes or so, and it hits me! Duh! We’re not ribbing! We’re just straight knitting around and around and around :( I apologized a ton, and we “frog” and cast-on again and then we did a k1, p1 for the cuff. I dont’ know why I didn’t have her do a rib! Ha,ha,ha. Just gotta laugh and shake my head at myself ;) Things went pretty smooth after that, and she nearly completed her sock before she had to leave, so I think she learned enough to get her started on the highly addicting practice of knitting socks!

I’m so happy that all the ladies I’ve taught have been so sweet and generous with my little teaching “Oops!”. Each time I teach someone, I get a better feel of how I should go about it, so there’s hope that one day I will teach a class without fumbling, hee, hee.

Thank you Farrah for the nice comment and yes, I have a new project now. I’m making a pair of men’s socks for a relative’s Christmas present (It’s never too early to start those).

I’m going to knit these particular socks on two circs, and I just bought bamboo circs because my friend, Carol, who has been knitting 2 socks on 2 circs, says knitting with one bamboo and one metal circ keep you from grabbing the wrong needle and dropping the other completely (as if you were doing 2 socks on 1 circ). I’m also eager to try the bamboo as I’ve never worked with it before.

There’s all the news that is news. Hope you all have a wonderful day!

Hi Lori. Maybe you can teach me to do socks someday. I would love to learn, but I’m a slow knitter and am not sure I have the patience for socks. I think the only way I could do it would be to knit two at the same time…otherwise I would end up with an awful lot of single socks, giving up on the second one simply out of exhaustion. XO

    Lori,
Just wanted to let you know that I have finished the sock and the second sock is done, just have to close the toe. I’m ready to start another pair with a longer cuff.

Thanks so much for your patience. It was really fun and I’m so surprised that socks are not as hard as they look!! Carol gave me your site.

    Thanks again!!

Thank you, Jan. I had a lot of fun teaching you and I’m so glad you’re already done with your first pair!
