Home School Convention
As you know, I home school and a friend and I were able to go to the Home School Convention in Searcy yesterday and today. If you home school and there is a convention near you I highly recommend you going to it, bring the whole family, it’s informative and fun. I took my two oldest yesterday and they were able to take an Art class to learn about drawing animals with charcole and pencil, they had a blast! The guest speaker was Mark Hambly of Lamplighter Publishing Company . Mark is an amazing guy! And the books his company has found to re-print (they are beautiful old stories), are awesome! I can’t say enough about these books. I am currently reading, “The Lamplighter” by Maria Cummins. It’s about a little girl who is ill treated and half-starved to death by an old woman who is in charge of her care until her father returns from his sea voyage. She is kicked out of the old woman’s home and is taken in by the old lamplighter. It is a sweet story, a tear jerker for sure (have some kleenex nearby when you read this one) but very enjoyable.
I had a great time at the convention, purchased some good biographies of different people like D.L. Moody, Eliza Shirley, Annie Etheridge and a book of different stories from missionaries in different parts of the world. I also got and Arkansas history curriculum and a quilter’s unit study at the used book sale as well.
I’ve walked a hundred miles these two days (at least it seems like it) so I’m ready to go to bed so I can try to be rested for Sunday.
