More About Aprons
As you know, yesterday was National Apron Day, and that got me to thinking, “I wonder if I could knit an apron?” So, I went on the hunt to find the perfect online pattern for a knitted apron. I figured if I could make one out of wool, it would be attractive and a fire preventative, much like wearing a knitted potholder on top of your clothes, ha,ha. Naturally, I would only use a knitted apron only when cooking. Here’s what I’ve found so far:
Knitting-crochet has a very pretty half apron made from crochet thread. Jordana has created a very nice knitted apron with a fun fur edging on it. Priscilla Hewitt crocheted a simple apron of white. Here’s a retro apron I know you’re going to love, it was designed by Jordana Page and is featured on Do It Yourself.
Here’s a cute little Daisy Apron it looks small, so I would recommend this as a child’s apron. If you want a real fancy crocheted apron this is the one for you. Working in your garden, you need something to keep your tools in and here’s the right apron for the job.
If you’re looking to have an apron represent nature Free Patterns has two aprons. One is an acorn pattern and the other is a pineapple pattern, both are very pretty but speaking from experience with making the pineapple pattern in other projects, the pinapple apron is more difficult.
Tracy Ullman has designed an apron that is retro, but I love the modern color scheme she’s used. (And I only knew her to be a comedian)
Grenadine Girl knitted an adorable striped apron from cotton.
Last but not least, here’s Stitch Thru Time if you want to purchase a wonderfully elegant 1940’s apron.
I hope this is helpful to those who, like me, have asked themselves, “I wonder if there are knitted or crocheted apron patterns out there?”
I’m not sure which one I want to make just yet, although I am leaning more toward the strawberry apron by Jordana. I’ll post an update when I decide for sure.

I love the strawberry one! I have seen a pattern on I think the Buttericks or Vogue vintage lines that is very similar to the for purchase 1940’s one. Those are my two favs. The Party Apron would be great sans the fun fur a daily use one, and that is one of the ones I was looking at. I will see if I have the crocheted one printed off and I will let you know if I find it. Aprons are so great!!! I still have the one my grandmother made for me when I was really litte.
That would be great if you found that pattern. I’d love to see the apron your Grandma made you.
